Students ending up in the wrong graduate careers
It appears that many graduates, once into the work environment, feel they are in the wrong graduate careers.
The news follows a survey performed by Kelly recruitment services who spoke to 115000 people from countries all over the world. The survey asked questions about peoples graduates careers all the way back to their schooling and the subjects they studied. Some of the results were surprising.
Nearly one fifth of those questioned felt they were in the wrong graduate careers altogether. Over 40% felt that their education in no way prepared them for working life. This perhaps a reflection of how academic schooling is. In addition, nearly half wished they had gone on to study something else before committing to graduate careers.
It is ironic that the population who are perhaps best qualified and should have the best choice of jobs should end up unhappy in their work. Having been educated to a high level in a certain discipline perhaps it is simply too early to have committed to one area of work.
